Describe the heating problem without diagnosing it
Tell the recipient whether the furnace does not start, starts and stops, or runs while rooms remain cold. Note which rooms are affected, when the issue began and any displayed message you can read safely. Equipment type and recent maintenance records can help frame the request; they are not a substitute for an assessment.
Ask what the diagnostic charge includes
Confirm whether the proposed visit is an inspection only or permission to begin repairs. Ask for the diagnosed fault, proposed parts and labor, any order delay, and the process for approving extra work. Do not assume a quoted visit fee includes the full repair or that a requested time is a confirmed appointment.
Document the repair and follow-up
Request an explanation of the completed work and any remaining concerns. Ask who to contact if the same symptom returns and what written parts and labor terms apply. If replacement is recommended, ask for a separate installation proposal so you can compare it with the repair scope.
